Thomas Tuchel Announces England Squad: Foden, Palmer, Maguire and Alexander-Arnold Left Out

Thomas Tuchel has made his biggest statement yet as England manager.

The German coach announced his latest England squad and several high-profile names were left out, including Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Harry Maguire and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The exclusions immediately sparked discussion ahead of the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

Major Omissions Surprise England Fans

Tuchel caused shock on Thursday after reports confirmed that Harry Maguire, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden would not be part of England’s World Cup plans.

A day later, Sky Sports reported that Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luke Shaw had also failed to make the final squad.

The decision marks a major shift in England’s hierarchy under Tuchel.

England Goalkeepers

Tuchel selected three goalkeepers:

🧤 Jordan Pickford (Everton)
🧤 Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace)
🧤 James Trafford (Manchester City)

Defensive Unit Without Maguire and Trent

England’s defence includes:

  • Reece James (Chelsea)

  • Tino Livramento (Newcastle United)

  • Marc Guehi (Manchester City)

  • Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa)

  • John Stones (Manchester City)

  • Jarell Quansah (Bayer Leverkusen)

  • Nico O’Reilly (Manchester City)

  • Dan Burn (Newcastle United)

  • Djed Spence (Tottenham Hotspur)

Notably absent are Harry Maguire, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luke Shaw, all long-time England regulars.

Jordan Henderson Returns

One of the biggest surprises came in midfield.

Former Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson, now playing for Brentford, was included by Tuchel.

England midfield selections:

  • Declan Rice (Arsenal)

  • Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest)

  • Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)

  • Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)

  • Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United)

  • Eberechi Eze (Arsenal)

  • Jordan Henderson (Brentford)

Kane Leads the Attack

England’s attacking options feature:

Harry Kane (Bayern Munich)
Ivan Toney (Al-Ahli)
Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)
Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
Noni Madueke (Arsenal)
Marcus Rashford (Barcelona)
Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United)

The absence of Phil Foden and Cole Palmer makes this one of the most surprising England squads in recent years.

Tuchel appears ready to reshape the national team ahead of the World Cup.
