Fenerbahçe held by Rizespor after 98th-minute equaliser

Fenerbahçe were held to a 2-2 draw by Çaykur Rizespor in a match that could have had a major impact on the Süper Lig title race.

The home side looked set to secure all three points after a late comeback, but a stoppage-time goal denied them victory.

First half: Control without reward

Fenerbahçe controlled large parts of the first half but failed to convert their dominance into goals. Despite seeing more of the ball and creating attacking pressure, the hosts went into the break without a lead.

Rizespor strike early

The second half began with a shift in momentum.

In the 47th minute, Ali Sowe capitalised on a defensive lapse to give Rizespor a 1-0 lead, putting Fenerbahçe under immediate pressure.

Red card and comeback

Rizespor were reduced to 10 men in the 72nd minute when Samet Akaydin received a second yellow card.

Fenerbahçe increased their pressure and were eventually rewarded. After a VAR review, they were awarded a penalty, which Talisca converted in the 80th minute to level the score.

Just six minutes later, Kerem Aktürkoğlu completed the turnaround, making it 2-1 for Fenerbahçe and putting the home side in control of the match.

Late drama in stoppage time

With victory within reach, Fenerbahçe failed to see out the game.

In the 98th minute, Modibo Sagnan scored with a header from a set piece to make it 2-2. The goal was compounded by a mistake from goalkeeper Ederson.

Title race implications

The result represents a significant setback for Fenerbahçe in the title race.

Dropping two points in stoppage time could prove costly as they continue to chase league leaders Galatasaray.
