Hull City Make First Move for Mert Kömür

Hull City have started work on a deal for FC Augsburg midfielder Mert Kömür.

According to Kerry Hau of Sky Sport DE, the Premier League newcomers have already held talks with the 21-year-old’s representatives, with those discussions described as positive.

No agreement has been reached with the player, while direct negotiations between Hull City and Augsburg have not yet begun.

Augsburg have, however, been informed of the English club’s interest.

That leaves the potential deal at an early stage. Hull City have opened the conversation with the player’s side, but any significant progress will still require formal talks with the Bundesliga club.

Regular Bundesliga Minutes at 21

Kömür made 28 Bundesliga appearances for Augsburg during the 2025/26 season and played 1,464 minutes.

He started 61% of those matches and finished the campaign with two goals and four assists.

According to StatsLook, he produced 4.02 xG, was involved in five big chances and recorded a 6.28 average rating.

Capable of playing as both a central midfielder and attacking midfielder, Kömür is also listed as two-footed.

High Shot Volume

One of the clearest features of Kömür’s 2025/26 profile is his shooting output.

Among Bundesliga attacking midfielders with at least 450 minutes played, he ranked fifth for total shots with 2.64 per 90.

He also ranked ninth for shots on target at 0.98 per 90 and tenth for xG at 0.25.

His final goal return was lower than those underlying numbers might suggest. Kömür scored twice from 4.02 xG across the season.

The data therefore shows a player who regularly reaches shooting positions, even if that volume did not fully translate into goals.

Strong Assist Output

Kömür also contributed as a creator.

His 0.25 assists per 90 ranked eighth among Bundesliga attacking midfielders, while he also averaged:

  • 1.48 key passes

  • 3.69 crosses

  • 0.18 through balls

per 90 minutes.

He ranked ninth for crosses, 18th for key passes and 16th for through balls.

That creative output resulted in four league assists across the campaign.

Comfortable in Possession

Kömür averaged 48.93 touches and 22.68 accurate passes per 90.

His 81.5% passing accuracy ranked 11th among Bundesliga attacking midfielders in the StatsLook comparison.

He also completed 1.05 successful dribbles per 90, while his defensive contribution included 1.23 tackles, 0.55 interceptions, 4.00 duels won and 3.01 ball recoveries.

Why Hull City Are Looking at Kömür

StatsLook’s data does not present Kömür as a finished top-level midfielder, but it does show a 21-year-old already producing significant attacking volume in the Bundesliga.

His shot numbers, assist output and passing efficiency are the main strengths in his 2025/26 profile.

For a newly promoted Premier League side such as Hull City, that combination of current production and development potential makes him an interesting target.

The transfer itself, though, is still at an early stage.

According to Kerry Hau, Hull City have received a positive response in their initial conversations with the player’s camp, and Augsburg are aware of the interest. The next major step would be for the clubs to begin formal negotiations.
